There are 4 design principles for landscaping, these are order, repetition, proportion and unity. These principles of design are used as a set of protocol or guidelines that landscape designers use to achieve a creative, aesthetic, comfortable and pleasing output for homeowners about their yard.

In this article, we will go in detail with these design principles for landscaping.

  1. Order

This landscaping principle is referring to the balance, alignment, and organization of the landscape area. Order is attained by the use of a system wherein you will be applying symmetry to the formation or depending on your style as long as the distinction of the area remains neatly in place even with there is no symmetry and will just look balanced.

     2. Repetition

The idea of repetition or repeating is to create a pattern that is predictable or familiar enough to be traced in the area. In order to achieve this, these design elements need to have specified features that can be repeated in order throughout the area. This can be enhanced if it’s alternated between designs. A simple repetitive order can put the yard at a perfect harmony of monotony and; if not done correctly or properly this can create a confusing unorganized feel in the yard’.

       3. Proportion

Proportioning is the process of wherein the size of the objects within the landscape correlates to the other objects near or together with it. It’s very important to factor this in while designing the landscape as this is also related to the principle order. Relative proportion is when you’re factoring in the size of the object together with the other objects it’s together with like the size of plants, the house, and the area; while absolute proportion is the proportion purporting to the size of a person.

       4. Unity

This is achieved by putting all of the three above together creating a harmonious combination. If the colors, textures, arrangements and form do not coincide with each other, then the principles of design in landscaping weren’t applied properly.

Once you have figured out the style of architecture, the yard space shaping and the areas for opportunity on your area then you can start with preparing some of the features and give them form. These forms are creatively and logically placed within the area.

Landscaping design is somewhat a problem solving with the principles as formulas and factors that affect it are the organization and architectural input of a landscaping expert. The visual elements or qualities like the form, line, colors and textures and also factoring in visual weight and guidelines are all parts interconnected to make everything in the yard aesthetically pleasing to the eyes.

If your yard does have all of these principles then that is definitely great, but if you’re looking to spruce up your lawn with a new pond, install a turf, add a walkway or get lawn maintenance, calling a landscaping company Surrey can help you do the trick.
